Native English speaker on Monday

Hey discussion@,

in a few days, we want to release a timeline with FSFE's successes in the last
12 years. It consists of ~30-40 small boxes with a headline and some
description and is written in English - unfortunately not by a native speaker.

So I hope that one or two native English speakers may have time on monday
(25th) at lunchtime/afternoon to review the texts we have written and make
them sound natural and therefore more professional. I think you won't need
more than 15-20 minutes for this.

Hi everyone,

the texts are now ready to be proofread!
We are working in a pad [1] to finalise the text. Tomorrow morning, the
proofreading should be finished to include the texts in the timeline [2].

You don't have to add/delete content! Please try to make it sound more proper
and if possible, economise words. I kindly ask you to use British English to
make it consistent.

Thank you very much for helping with this! Native speakers are very important
for our work, especially in contexts like this one.

I've had a go at [1]. It's already quite good but still has a few rough
spots. Some things I didn't change because I wasn't sure about the meaning.

Is there no item about the OOXML-battle? This was a large issue in
Switzerland.

Hi Kim, hi Theo,

Sorry I had to leave this afternoon (well, yesterday afternoon).
Attached are some additional suggested changes in an .odt file with Edit/
Changes/ Record turned on.

Perfect, thank you! I included most of the changes and will now be able to
transfer all texts to the graphical timeline.

Hi Max,

Thank you.I think the OOXML-issue was milestone even if we lost. It was
probably more evident in Switzerland than Germany because the
FSFE-office was then in Z?rich. Shane Coughlan was working there at the
time (2008?) and did a great job representing FSFE. Georg Greve was also
there, but represented Google. For some strange reason, Google's vote
wasn't counted in Switzerland. As we "lost" by one vote, this was one of
several irregularities in Switzerland. Howevber according to
Loading Image...
such irregularities were also found in Germany and indded in most
western countries.

Hello altogether,

I'd like to express my thanks to everyone who helped proofreading and
improving the new Timeline [1]! Without you, our work of the last 12 years
wouldn't be as good and clear presented as it is now.

This was a good example of collaboration between many different people:
techies, native speakers, designers, visionaries, fellows, "old-timers" -
volunteers of all kinds.

I hope you enjoyed the work as well.
